Publishing data

Publishing data, or in other words, placing freely accessible primary biodiversity data online, is NLBIF's core activity. In order to publish data in a competent fashion and to make it findable afterwards too, there are two requirements; data standardisation and data registration. Data standardisation often still involves manual work. For data registration and final online publication, GBIF has developed a network of special tools.

Data standardisation

Exchangeability of data is one of the main pillars within the international GBIF network. For that purpose, GBIF and NLBIF standardise data according to internationally accepted standards such as DarwinCore (DwC) and Access to Biological Collections Data (ABCD).

Ecological Metadata Language (EML) is another important GBIF data standard. This standard specifically focusses on meta-data on research, monitoring, collection and observation data. more...

Registration of organisations and datasets

An important service provided by GBIF and NLBIF is the registration of institutions and organisations as data owners in an international context. more...
