Breeding bird atlas data from the European Bird Census Council (EBCC) freely online in GBIF
With the help of NLBIF and Sovon, Dutch Centre for Field Ornithology, the European Bird Census Council would like to make the database of the first European breeding bird atlas (EBBA1) available as open access data.
In this project a European dataset covering the occurrence of breeding birds in grid cells of 50 x 50 kilometers will be made available, including information on the certainty of breeding and an estimation of the number of breeding pairs. Additional information is provided on the survey intensity for each grid cel. In total the datasets accommodates about 360.000 records. The data are collected between 1980 and 1990.
The reason for opening up this dataset is that there is now a second European breeding bird atlas on its way. Providing the organisations involved in this second atlas project with the reference data of the first atlas will streamline the efforts and synchronize activities.
